Community Center Skate Park for Youth
An indoor skateboarding space in the central district that is free for students, which also works to connect young people to resources - jobs, volunteer opps, internships, college/vocational programs, counseling, mental health resources, food, clothes, mutual aid, etc. Art shows and music could also be part of the space's offerings. The skate park could be free every day after school for students, and then after 6PM, it could be sessions/programs/events for different identities, like queer/trans skaters, beginners, women/trans skaters, etc.
This proposal has been accepted because:
Type of funding: Infrastructure (capital)
Rough cost estimate: Over $7.2 million
Evaluation notes:
✅ This idea could be implemented without changing current policy or law.
✅ This idea is within the City's jurisdiction.
✅ This idea doesn't name a specific vendor.
❌ This idea would incur costs indefinitely.
Justification: The City of Seattle currently does not have an indoor skate facility. The only indoor skating facility (All Together Skate) is a private entity and charges admission/membership. This would be a new amenity/facility for the City of Seattle.
Other notes: Additional information, such as demographics and location, need to be assessed.
