Making Toilets Portable
Portable toilets for everyone, most everything.
This proposal is being evaluated
Type of funding: Programs and services (non-capital)
Rough cost estimate: TBD
Evaluation notes:
✅ This idea could be implemented without changing current policy or law.
✅ This idea is within the City's jurisdiction.
✅ This idea doesn't name a specific vendor.
❌ This idea would incur costs indefinitely.
Justification: Yes if builds on existing programs. For hygiene station requests there need to be pre-planned and agreed-upon sites. We would also need more information on desired locations/relevant geographies.
Other notes:
- Hygiene facilities provided in specific areas: https://seattlecitygis.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=311fcaa38e1c45328ade2de388cefcc6, https://atyourservice.seattle.gov/2022/02/25/2022-hygiene-shower-trailer-locations/
- Public hygiene program operations team within SPU
The cost estimate provided is for a complement of three hygiene assets (standard porta potty, ada porta potty, & handwash station), the corresponding maintenance costs including trash pick up, and two trash containers (trash & recycling). To site this at 1 location for a year is $110k. 10 locations, $1.1M.
